June 6 – The National Day of Sweden!

06.06.2017

The begging of June comes with a special celebration for Swedes. The 6th of June represents the National Day of the Swedish nation and during this day everyone is ready to celebrate!

The importance of 6th of June was underlined in the Swedish society starting with the 1916 Summer Olympics which were hosted in Stockholm. Since then, the day was celebrated as honoring the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523, the man who established the modern Swedish state. Until 1983 it was considered the Swedish flag day, and then it was renamed to the Swedish National Day. The 6th of June became an official Swedish public holiday only in 2005.

If you are in Stockholm today, you’ll have the unique chance to celebrate this special day with the locals. There are many festivities around the town. But most importantly, you should check out the Drottningholm Palace, the Royal Palace or Skansen. Find more details on the links.

Grattis, Sverige!
