StockholmSubwaystoRy #42 – Hökarängen

16.10.2016

The third week of October comes to our blog with the stoRy of Hökarängen. The station was opened in the autumn of 1950 in the district with the same name. It serves the green line in the subway system, in the southern part of the Swedish capital.

Initially, in the 1950s, Hökarängen was the last station of the line 18 coming from Slussen. Its status changed in the 1960s when more southern station was built – Farsta. The station is constructed entirely on the ground and it has one platform and two tracks alongside it. More than 6.000 people are passing by here on a regular weekday.

Hökarängen was designed by the architect Peter Celsing, while the artistic decorations represent the work of Hanns Karlewski. He made the two bronze sculptures on the platform and the several painted panels in two colors which are installed along the curved platform.

Keep up with our stories. Follow our blog here for new entries on every Sunday or like the project’s Facebook page here for other Stockholm subway-related information.
