StockholmSubwaystoRy #26 – Karlaplan

26.06.2016

Karlaplan is today’s fresh entry in the Stockholm Subway StoRy. The station is located in the Östermlam district and it serves the red line in the subway system. Karlaplan, as other neighboring stations, was opened in 1967.

The station is located 23 meters under the ground. And it is also the deepest station in the whole metro system of Stockholm, being more than 10 meters below the sea level.

The artwork here was designed by Tor Hörlin. His work in glazed stoneware was opened at the same time with the station, in 1967. By visiting the station you’ll find 16 areas with his tiles in a mosaic pattern.

Later, in 1983, Larseric Vänerlöf created “That Day and that Sorrow”, a photographic montage beeing almost 100 meters long. The station got new elements in 2009.

To see previous entries in our stoRy, take a look here and follow our blog every Sunday for a new station from the Swedish capital!
